22 Do museums have a role in our society?

Actually, I’ve read that there are more more people going to cultural institutions than to sporting venues, which definitely indicates that museums are deeply rooted in our society. In fact, in recent years attendance has increased steadily. Another welcome change is that the biggest audience sector in many museums is young people in their 20s or 30s. When the first museums were established in the Renaissance, they helped establish the very notion of knowledge being based on facts. Nowadays, there are numerous challenges museums have to rise to as there are many other sources of information (e.g. the Internet). Many believe that museums can perform the function of creating and engaging through experimental projects.
