I’ve read an interesting article about this, in which a 37-year old writer decided to try living the life of a 75-year-old man. He was given a pair of goggles, which gave him tunnel vision (a common problem for older people), Also, they added weights straps to his ankles and wrists to make him slower and weaker. He was made to wear surgical gloves, which were to make him appreciate the poor sense of touch that comes with age. Finally, he was fitted with earplugs, which made conversation around him muffled so him often felt cut off from the rest of the world. Then he went out to do some shopping in a department store. The goggles made everything seem bright, he couldn’t make out the conversations around him, and all in all, due to his restricted vision and sight, the world seemed unsafe.
