3 Can we do anything to boost our self-esteem? Does it make us more successful?

Some believe that low self-esteem is the root of all evil in the world. If we could raise people’s self-esteem, there would be less violence and aggression. There are several (supposedly successful) ways of achieving this goal. You might craft personal ’affirmations’ and say them to yourself, you might listen to motivational speakers or buy self-help books. Children have become a primary target as motivational speakers roam the USA to help boost children’s self-esteem nationwide in kids’ shows. Others warn that bolstering children’s sense of uniqueness would result in creating narcissism. Children who are constantly told that they are unique, ’special’ would not be able to cope with reality in later years and will not know how to process failure. Also, they would believe they are doing everything great, and would blame the world outside for not appreciating them.
